Declining army share in budget worries parliamentary panel

New Delhi: Expressing its “concern” over the Indian Army’s “declining” share in the defence budget, a parliamentary panel has called for measures to correct this so that modernisation does not suffer.

“The committee noted with concern the declining trend in the share of the army in the defence budget (from) 57 percent in 2002-03 (to) 47 percent in the current year,” parliament’s standing committee on defence said in its 16th report tabled in the Lok Sabha Saturday. The report was made public Monday.
